The laughing owl is a magnificent yellowish brown bird that is nocturnal and around the height of a little blue penguin which is 35cm tall and are now extinct.

The reason why the laughing owl got extinct is because when the Europeans came they brought cats, stoats and ferrets can climb trees and eat there eggs. Humans also hunted these birds for meat.

The laughing owl hunted for small birds like kiwi and ducks, they also hunted for larger birds like wheka and morepork. The laughing owls had a dreadfully sharp beak to snag its prey and it helped the prey stay in the position it was caught in.
